Free Colonies for Schools

nspire the Next Generation of Scientists and Conservationists

Bring the fascinating world of ants into your classroom with the Ant Antics Foundation’s Free Colonies for Schools programme. This hands-on educational initiative gives students the chance to care for a real ant colony while learning about biology, ecosystems, and the vital role ants play in our natural world.

🐜 Why Ants?

Ants are more than just insects, they are a keystone species that shape entire ecosystems. In the wild, they recycle nutrients, aerate soil, protect plants, and maintain balance in nature. In the classroom, they spark curiosity, critical thinking, and a love for life sciences.

Whether your students are in Reception or Year 12, antkeeping is an engaging, safe, and low-maintenance way to connect them with nature and real-world science.

Colony Arrival

Once you have completed your application form, we will add you to our wait list for a fully funded school colony.

We email the school, this is just to ensure you have permission to accept the colony and are not a student doing something wild without teacher consent.  Once confirmed we ship your colony and starter information.

We keep in touch with you, we are also on hand to do teams chats with your class if information is needed. We can also take care of your colony during holidays e.t.c. The only thing your school needs to provide is a source of proteins for the colony.
